Dogs
for the Disabled is asking people to cover 25,000 miles in a bid
to raise funds for the charity. |
Dogs
for the Disabled, a registered charity founded in 1986, trains dogs
to help disabled people live life more independently. The dogs are
trained in practical tasks such as opening and closing doors, helping
a person undress, and even taking the laundry out of the washing
machine.
“Since 1986 we have trained over 300 dogs to help disabled
people live life more independently. But there are many more people
that could be helped by these amazing dogs.”

Pat Phipps and Dolly |
"Dolly
is extremely gentle - she never marks anything she picks up for
me and when she helps me undress she gently feels where my hands
and feet are to remove socks and shoes. Amazingly in the four years
since I’ve had her she has never laddered a pair of tights!" |
| Paws
Around the World is a new campaign where people can be
sponsored to walk, swim, cycle or even hop a mile or more to represent
one of the 25,000 global miles.
Chief
executive Peter Gorbing says “The good thing about Paws
around the World is that you can do the event whenever and wherever
you want and the event can be tailored to whatever you enjoy doing.
So, you can be sponsored to do a five mile run or take a walk
with your dog but if swimming is more your thing then you could
swim a mile at your local pool.”

Coming
soon - Participants in the ‘Paws around the World’
challenge will be able to track the campaign’s progress
via the charity’s website, where a ‘Paws around the
World’ mile-o-meter will be created to show how many miles
have been accumulated.
As
an added incentive to help with fundraising, participants that
raise over £100 will receive one of the charity’s
mascots – a cute and cuddly toy dog called HERO.
