Canine Hydrotherapy - Session 7
My name is Danielle. In January 2006 my 18 month old Shih Tzu Tia slipped and damaged her cruciate ligament. She was referred for 6 weeks of canine hydrotherapy. Here is our personal account of Tia's hydrotherapy sessions.

Session 7
Arrived at Hydrotherapy today with Tia and she really didn’t want to even go through the door. We showered her down and fitted her life jacket then took her up to the pool.

She looked reluctant to go up there and was worse once she got into the pool. She kept clinging to Tania and swimming to the side. Tania asked if she had been fed or if anything different had been done today but I could think of nothing. We also noticed she wasn't using her back legs very much at all and so kept going a little lop sided.

After an agonising first swim we put our thinking caps on to try and find something which may have caused her to behave like this. Nothing sprang to mind although I did point out she had been slightly off her food but as we had had the tricks training day on Monday I put it down to all the cheese she had had.

So we took Tia home at the end of the session and kept an eye on her. Unlike her usual self where she would bomb round the house and garden like a thing possessed she simply lay on her bed and left it at that. For the rest of the week I noticed Tia becoming more and more subdued and leaving more and more of her dinner.

We gave training a miss this week as I had a feeling she might have a bad tummy or something but she wasn't sick and had no irregular poos.
By Monday she seemed to have made a full recovery and dinner has since been gobbled up.
