Calling all Cases - Pet MRSA Update
Jill has thanked D for Dog for the work it is doing in calling cases of pet MRSA to come forward. As her cause progresses, we thought it was time for an update on her work.

Jill’s aim is to do all she can to help other people become aware and informed about the risks of MRSA in pets so that other people do not suffer like she did when she lost her dog Bella.

Jill’s pet MRSA charity will soon be registered and there will be a National press launch. Jill has already taken part in a recorded interview especially for GMTV, which will be screened soon and the cause has received much press attention.

The new related charity website can be found at www.thebellamossfoundation.com. They will soon be taking donations online with the aim of sponsoring conferences to help educate vet staff and a longer term aim of opening a vet clinic in a couple of years.

So if you know anyone whose pet has become ill following surgery or if you suspect your own pet may have been infected with the MRSA virus, you can still send us your details using the form below. Or to simply find out more about pet MRSA and make sure you are fully informed, Jill’s websites offer a wealth of information. Visit www.pets-mrsa.com and its sister website www.thebellamossfoundation.com.
The Bella Moss Foundation

Calling all cases of pet MRSA
In November last year, D for Dog posted an article looking into the issue of MRSA in Pets. We contacted Jill Moss, who lost her 10 year old Samoyed, Bella, to the superbug on 24th August 2004. Jill believes that Bella picked up the infection during a routine operation and she launched a campaign to educate as many vets and pet owners as she can about the risks of the MRSA bug to animals. She is also campaigning for tighter guidelines for veterinary practices.

Jill’s tireless work has been rewarded with much media attention and the cause now has Claire Rayner as their Honorary Patron. Claire Rayner says “We as a society need to be concerned with animals contracting MRSA. It is a very worrying situation. More research needs to be done for the future."

Jill’s website www.pets-mrsa.com contains a wealth of information about the issue of MRSA in pets and how to protect your pets from the superbug. It charts Jill’s progress during her ‘campaign for change’ and provides the latest research and information about MRSA in companion animals. Visitors to the site can also contact Jill directly.

Can you help?
As part of a major new media campaign, Jill has asked D for Dog to help find out about other cases or suspected cases of pets with MRSA in the UK. So if you know anyone whose pet has become ill following surgery or had a serious infection, or if you suspect your own pet may have been infected with the MRSA virus, please send us your details and become part of this important campaign. Your details will be passed on to Jill on your behalf, or alternatively you can contact Jill Moss at jill@pets-mrsa.com
