Battersea Dogs’ Home are organising
their second annual National Walk a Dog to School Day on Wednesday
6th July 2005. All across the UK, parents, children and teachers
are encouraged to get out in the fresh air with their dogs and help
raise funds for the charity.
As well as raising much needed funds for Battersea Dogs’ Home,
the event emphasises the many benefits of dog walking such as general
health and fitness and helping to reduce stress. It will also have
the positive effect of increasing people’s awareness of responsible
dog ownership, encouraging interaction with dogs and involving UK
schools in a worthwhile activity.
Fiona Healey-Hutchinson, Director of Fundraising at Battersea Dogs
Home says:
“National Walk a Dog to School Day is a great chance for
kids and adults to get that little extra outdoor exercise. Absolutely
anyone can take part as you don’t necessarily have to own
a dog yourself – maybe a neighbour or a family friend has
a dog just panting for a walk? Schools can also arrange other fundraising
activities on the day such as holding a fete or fun run. Whatever
you do, the dogs and cats at Battersea Dogs Home really need your
support so please, please sign up now!”
