National Poop Scoop Week is run
by Dogs Trust and is in its sixth successful year. This year National
Poop Scoop Week runs from 27 June to 03 July 2005.
Dog mess in public areas is unsightly, unhygienic and unfortunately
all too common. Dog poop is unpleasant to look at and even more
unpleasant to step in.
This awareness campaign promotes responsible dog ownership and
the message that it is every dog owner's duty to clean up after
their dog. Did you know that failure to clean up after your dog
can result in a £50 fine or even lead to prosecution and
a fine of up to £1000 in Court, under The Dogs (Fouling
of Land) Act 1996.
The message is clear
Grab It
Always keep a supply of poop bags near your dog's lead so you
don't forget to take one with you every time you walk your dog.
Any bag, even a carrier bag, will serve well as a poop scoop.
Simply insert your hand in the plastic bag and pick up your dogs
waste.
Bag It
Turn the plastic bag inside out and your dogs mess will then be
in the bag and you can even tie the handles shut.
Bin It
Where possible, dispose of your bag of poop in a specially provided
poop bin. If a specific dog poop bin is not provided, you can
dispose of the poop bag in a public litter bin.
