Directive |

Over a year ago, back in February 2005, Candy King’s Jack
Russell terrier puppy Dolly Mixture went missing. To this day
Dolly Mixture remains missing despite being microchipped. |
 |
During
her search for Dolly, Candy became all too aware of the inadequacies
of the microchipping system.
Candy says “Are you aware that dogs are only scanned if
found as a stray or involved in a RTA when not with its owner? You
or I could take our new dog to a vet for its jabs or a check up
and most vets will not scan or check for tattoos. We may well have
purchased this new dog or re-homed it from a re-homing centre in
all innocence but it could well be the beloved missing pet of someone
who is desperate to find it.”
Determined to do something about this obvious loop-hole in the dog
identification system, Candy, supported by www.doglost.co.uk,
has started Dolly’s Directive. The Directive requests routine
and compulsory scanning of all dogs, new or existing, by all organizations
who come into contact with dogs such as vets, police, dog pounds,
re-homing centres, and other animal welfare charities and furthermore
that they check for tattoos and other forms of identification.
What can you do to help?
to open a copy of Dolly’s Directive. Simply print this off
and get it signed by as many people as you possibly can. Give copies
to your local pet shop, dog club, dog shows, your place of work,
etc.
“We are also asking people to write to their local MP with
a copy of Dolly’s Directive and also to the RCVS outlining
why they think the implementation of Dolly’s Directive is
important. I am just one voice and cannot fight this battle alone
but many voices will be heard and with your help I feel we can achieve
this. I know it is tedious writing letters but I ask you to look
at your own dog and ask yourself if he/she is not worth writing
a couple of letters for.” says Candy.

“I
know that I may never get Dolly back but hope, with your help, to
stop other people going through this agony. Let’s make a difference.”
