National Poop Scoop Week, run
by the charity Dogs Trust, is in its 7th successful year. This
year, National Poop Scoop Week runs from 26 June to 02 July 2006.
Grab it, bag it and bin it to make 2006 the cleanest summer
ever.
Dog mess in public areas is unsightly, unhygienic and unfortunately
all too common. Dog poop is unpleasant to look at and even more
unpleasant to step in.
Dog fouling costs councils £22 million each year and is
still the country's most complained about issue, according to
the Keep Britain Tidy Statistics. Even though there are over 6
million dogs in the UK, it is just a small minority of owners
who let the rest down and gives dogs a bad name.
Clarissa
Baldwin, Chief Executive, Dogs Trust says:
“At
Dogs Trust we believe every dog owner has a responsibility to
pick up after their dog. It’s such a shame that a small
number of owners put dogs in a bad light, as there are millions
of responsible owners and well-behaved dogs out there! Through
National Poop Scoop Week 2006 we aim to raise awareness of this
issue and encourage the minority of irresponsible dog owners to
do their duty, making public spaces cleaner and more pleasant
for everyone.”
This awareness campaign promotes responsible dog ownership and
the message that it is every dog owner's duty to clean up after
their dog.
The message is clear
Grab It
Always keep a supply of poop bags near your dog's lead so you
don't forget to take one with you every time you walk your dog.
Any bag, even a carrier bag, will serve well as a poop scoop.
Simply insert your hand in the plastic bag and pick up your dogs
waste.
Bag It
Turn the plastic bag inside out and your dogs mess will then be
in the bag and you can even tie the handles shut.
Bin It
Where possible, dispose of your bag of poop in a specially provided
poop bin. If a specific dog poop bin is not provided, you can
dispose of the poop bag in a public litter bin.
