Take Your Dog
To Work Day
19th September 2006 |
Take Your Dog to Work Day is now in its 11th successful
year. The date for your diary is Tuesday 19th September 2006.
The event, organised by The Blue Cross and sponsored by Hill’s
Pet Nutrition, is still one of the most popular events in the
canine calendar, with 3,000 owners registering to take part in
the UK last year. The event also attracts global support, with
career canines taking part in countries from Cameroon to Canada,
from Portugal to Pakistan.
The event will see hundreds of dogs visiting schools, hospitals,
offices and shops. Dogs can lend a paw by joining the rat race
for a day. Even if you are not usually able to take your pooch
to work with you, making an effort on this one special day will
mean you both have fun and of course help raise money for animals
in need.
The Blue Cross says “By registering to take part in
the event you can help us with our work caring for sick and unwanted
animals at our adoption centres and animal hospitals across the
country.”
The event also helps promote awareness of the benefits of pet
companionship. Dogs can have such a positive effect on the mental
and physical well-being of those around them. At the same time,
the dog benefits from not being home-alone, which can lead to
dogs feeling sad, anxious and lonely. Your pooch will also learn
to be sociable and this time together is likely to increase your
dog's bond with you. So what are you waiting for!
Throughout Take Your Dog To Work Day’s history, thousands
of dogs and owners have taken part to help to promote responsible
animal ownership and raise funds for needy pets.
And it’s not just us mere mortals who take part.
“Every year, celebrity dog owners including presenter Johnny
Vaughan, Jamiroquai front man, Jay Kay, William Roache MBE, Jenny
Seagrove, Martin Clunes and Amanda Holden join thousands of others
to take part in the charity event.”
