After reluctantly having
no choice but to take our 2 dogs to a boarding kennels for a week
in September, we chose Appledown because it was close to Luton airport
and because the owner seemed genuinely involved and concerned about
our dogs and our concerns.
It is a shame that this concern did not filter through to the actual
care of our dogs. Of course, I do not know what their week was like
but I do know that when we picked them up there were filthy dirty
and smelly. Boycie is 10 years old and his slightly runny eyes hadn’t
even been wiped. The eye gunge had been left to congeal for a week,
by the look of him. Plus he had chewed his back paw raw and seemingly
no one had noticed.
Our arrival was met with complete disinterest from the staff, who
didn’t even greet the dogs. Our departure was the same. The
dogs were handed over and the girl began to walk off. I shouted
after her “where are their things” and was told they
were in a bin bag by our car. Charming. Needless to say, the blankets
were like the dogs - unwashed and in a disgusting state.
I emailed the owner, explaining my concerns and, deciding to give
her the benefit of the doubt, asked “Do you know that your
kennels are being run in this way?”. No reply. I waited a
week and emailed her again. To this date, no reply.
I can only assume the answer is “Yes, and I do not care”. |
